We may be old souls, but we still have fun

I've probably mentioned it before, but Bogdan and I are pretty much old folks. We prefer nights in and we rarely stay up late. Naturally this means we pretty much avoid nighttime social events altogether. However, when I read about Nightlife at the California Academy of the Sciences in my tour book, I knew we should shed our granny exteriors and go have some fun with penguins. (And no, I don't mean guys in tuxedos).

This is actually from Friday, but I didn't have any pics from Thursday.
On Thursday night we boarded the MUNI and headed to the Golden Gate Park. From 6 to 10 p.m. on Thursday, the Academy opens its doors to a DJ, cash bars, and lots of hip young people. The tour book (conveniently?) failed to mention the $12 entrance fee, but we paid willingly and started our dork-tastic night.

The lights inside are turned down low, the music pumps through the speakers, and tipsy kids in skinny jeans flirt, dance, and enjoy themselves (and the penguins). The best part of the night was in the "aquarium" section downstairs where we got to touch sea urchins and feel them "grab" onto our fingers. We also saw huge snakes, wired looking lizards, gigantic moths, a goofy looking turtle in the "swamp exhibit" and stuffed animals galore ala Night at the Museum. We had fun, but we were exhausted after. Still it was a good time, even for grannies like us.
