Wrapped up sightseeing, met friends for dinner

The sightseeing of Brussels was short and manageable. By dinner time, we had seen the whole city - the Royal Palace, Notre Dame du Sablon, the fish market, and everything else on the rather short list. That evening we met our friend Arnoud, who we met last year in the United Kingdom at Bogdan's conference. Arnoud lives in the Netherlands, and is only a 2 hour drive from Brussels so we met him and his girlfriend Maja at a bar/restaurant and enjoyed our new favorite Belgian beer (Leffe Blonde) and great conversation and company.

After dinner, Bogdan and I walked around waiting for it to get dark (which is at about 11 p.m.) because we were told, by Rick Steves mind you, that Notre Dame du Sablon was gorgeous at night, it's illuminated stained glass windows could be viewed from an outdoor cafe nearby. The church was dark, sadly, but we got to see the Grand Place lit up, which was indeed grand. It was nice to end that day knowing we had seen everything we wanted and knowing that all that was left for Brussels was a great concert, more Belgian beer, more relaxing at Grand Place, more Belgian chocolate, and more waffles. Mmm..waffles.

See all of our pictures from Belgium.
